Description

Prismarine Wall is a decorative wall variant of prismarine that never generates naturally in a Minecraft world. Six prismarine blocks arranged in two rows of three craft six walls, and a stonecutter turns one prismarine block into one wall. Any pickaxe breaks Prismarine Wall and returns the block, while mining without a pickaxe drops nothing. Like every wall in Minecraft, Prismarine Wall stands 1.5 blocks tall in mob and player collisions while filling one block of space, and each wall connects automatically to neighboring walls.

Prismarine Wall keeps the shifting blue-green tones of prismarine, the ocean-monument stone crafted from shards dropped by guardians, so underwater halls and monument-style builds stay consistent in color. Fencing with Prismarine Wall costs half as many blocks as a two-block wall of solid blocks, because the 1.5-block collision height stops players and most mobs from jumping over. A spider can still climb over the wall, and a skeleton can shoot across the wall. Prismarine Wall does not catch fire, tolerates water inside the block, and stacks to 64. Guardians drop prismarine shards, four shards craft one prismarine, and six prismarine blocks craft six walls, so the whole Prismarine Wall supply stays renewable.

Guide

How to Craft and Use Prismarine Wall in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Collect prismarine

Mine prismarine with a pickaxe inside an ocean monument, or craft prismarine from four shards dropped by guardians.

  2. 2

    Craft six walls at once

Arrange six prismarine blocks in two rows of three on a crafting grid to receive six Prismarine Walls.

  3. 3

Cut one wall on a stonecutter

Place one prismarine block into a stonecutter to receive exactly one Prismarine Wall, useful when a build needs only a single wall.

  4. 4

    Place walls in a line

Set Prismarine Wall along the edge of a build: neighboring walls connect automatically and rise 1.5 blocks tall in mob collisions.

  5. 5

Pick walls back up with a pickaxe

Break a placed Prismarine Wall with any pickaxe to recover the block; mining the wall without a pickaxe drops nothing.

Mobs that ignore walls

A spider climbs over Prismarine Wall, a skeleton shoots across the wall, and a creeper can still explode when a player stands near the wall, so plan the perimeter with these mobs in mind.

Frequently asked questions

Which version of Minecraft added Prismarine Wall?

Java Edition received Prismarine Wall in 1.14, and Bedrock Edition received the wall in 1.9.0.

Does Prismarine Wall generate naturally in any biome?

No. Prismarine Wall never generates naturally, so players obtain every wall by crafting prismarine or using a stonecutter.

What tool removes a placed Prismarine Wall?

Any pickaxe breaks Prismarine Wall and drops the block. Breaking the wall without a pickaxe drops nothing.

Can mobs jump over a Prismarine Wall?

Players and most mobs cannot jump over the 1.5-block collision height of Prismarine Wall, but a spider climbs across and a skeleton can shoot over the wall.

Is Prismarine Wall a renewable block?

Yes. Guardians drop prismarine shards, four shards craft one prismarine, and six prismarine blocks craft six walls, so farming guardians keeps the supply renewable.

Is Prismarine Wall a safe block for underwater builds?

Prismarine Wall cannot catch fire and tolerates water inside the block, so flooded corridors and builds near open flames both work with Prismarine Wall.
