Description

Prismarine Slab is the half-height variant of prismarine, the underwater stone that slowly shifts color between blue and green inside ocean monuments. No prismarine slab ever generates naturally, so players craft every slab themselves: three prismarine blocks in one row yield six slabs on a crafting table, and a stonecutter turns one prismarine into two slabs. Any pickaxe collects a placed slab intact, while a prismarine slab mined with anything other than a pickaxe drops nothing. Prismarine Slab has hardness 1.5, blast resistance 6, and emits no light. Prismarine Slab accepts waterlogging, so flooded floors and canal steps keep their water, and a second slab placed into the same block space combines with the first into a double slab.

Prismarine Slab is fully renewable: guardians drop prismarine shards, four shards craft one prismarine block, and three prismarine blocks craft six slabs, so a guardian farm supplies monument-scale builds without another expedition. Builders choose Prismarine Slab where full blocks feel heavy: stair treads, window sills, and layered floors of aquariums and harbor walls gain a lighter rhythm at half height. Sea lanterns placed beside prismarine slabs light these walkways without breaking the ocean-monument palette. For underwater ruins, docks, and monument-style temples, Prismarine Slab delivers the signature aqua stone at half the block height.

How to craft Prismarine Slabs in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Gather prismarine

Mine prismarine blocks inside an ocean monument with a pickaxe — even a wooden pickaxe qualifies. Every mined prismarine block drops itself as an item.

  2. 2

Craft six slabs at a crafting table

Place three prismarine blocks in one horizontal row of the crafting grid. The crafting table returns six Prismarine Slabs.

  3. 3

Cut two slabs on a stonecutter

Put one prismarine into a stonecutter and collect two Prismarine Slabs — the same two slabs per prismarine block as the crafting-table recipe.

  4. 4

    Place slabs and stack doubles

Lay Prismarine Slabs along floors and staircases. A second slab placed into the same block space combines with the first into a double slab.

  5. 5

Collect slabs back with a pickaxe

Break a placed prismarine slab with any pickaxe to pick the block up again. A slab mined with anything other than a pickaxe drops nothing.

Slabs and water

Prismarine Slab accepts waterlogging: placed under water, each slab keeps water inside its block space instead of leaving an air pocket, which suits submerged staircases.

Prismarine Slab was added to Java Edition in 1.13 (snapshot 18w07a) and became fully implemented in Bedrock Edition with version 1.4.0.

Can prismarine slabs catch fire or burn near lava?

How many prismarine slabs fit into one stack?

Prismarine Slab stacks up to 64 per inventory slot.

Why do two prismarine slabs play a sound when they combine on Bedrock?

Bedrock Edition plays the block's use sound — a stone hit — when two slabs combine into a double slab; the quirk is tracked as bug MCPE-79659.
