Description

Polished Tuff Wall is a decorative wall variant of polished tuff that never generates naturally and reaches a world only through crafting. Six polished tuff blocks arranged in two rows of three yield six Polished Tuff Walls on a crafting table, while a stonecutter cuts one tuff or polished tuff block into one Polished Tuff Wall. Any pickaxe breaks Polished Tuff Wall and drops the item; mining without a pickaxe destroys the wall for no drop. Polished Tuff Wall carries hardness 1.5, blast resistance 6 (resistance to creeper and TNT explosions), a stack size of 64, transparent status, and waterlogging support. Minecraft added Polished Tuff Wall in Java Edition 1.21 and Bedrock Edition 1.21.0.

Tuff mining feeds the whole production chain: tuff generates as ore blobs between elevations -64 and 0 in every biome, with two generation attempts per chunk and blob sizes up to 864 blocks, and four tuff blocks in a 2×2 grid craft into four polished tuff blocks. Builders deploy Polished Tuff Wall for battlements, garden edges, and pathway borders where a low wall silhouette fits better than a full block, and the non-flammable wall suits fireplace surrounds. Polished Tuff Wall is not renewable — tuff blobs are a finite map supply (the deposit never regrows), so mining tuff during cave trips keeps future wall projects stocked.

Guide

How to Craft Polished Tuff Wall in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Mine tuff underground

Take a pickaxe below elevation 0 and mine tuff ore blobs, which generate between elevations -64 and 0 in every biome; each chunk attempts two blobs of up to 864 blocks.

  2. 2

Craft polished tuff on a crafting table

Place four tuff blocks in a 2×2 square on a crafting table to receive four polished tuff blocks, or cut tuff one-for-one in a stonecutter.

  3. 3

    Craft six Polished Tuff Walls

Fill two adjacent crafting-grid rows with six polished tuff blocks; the recipe yields six Polished Tuff Walls at a one-to-one rate.

  4. 4

    Stonecut single walls on demand

Put one tuff block or one polished tuff block into a stonecutter and collect one Polished Tuff Wall whenever only a few pieces are needed.

  5. 5

    Recover walls with a pickaxe

Break a placed Polished Tuff Wall with any pickaxe to pick the wall back up; breaking Polished Tuff Wall without a pickaxe drops nothing.

Mine tuff in bulk

Polished Tuff Wall is non-renewable because tuff blobs form a finite map supply that never regrows, so stockpile tuff during cave trips before starting large wall projects.

Frequently asked questions

Can a stonecutter turn plain tuff into Polished Tuff Wall?

Yes. A stonecutter cuts one tuff block or one polished tuff block into one Polished Tuff Wall, skipping the polishing step on a crafting table entirely.

Which Minecraft version added Polished Tuff Wall?

Java Edition received Polished Tuff Wall in snapshot 23w43a behind the Update 1.21 experiment, and Bedrock Edition in Preview 1.20.50.22. Stable releases gained the wall in Java Edition 1.21 and Bedrock Edition 1.21.0.

Does Polished Tuff Wall stop water?

No. Polished Tuff Wall supports waterlogging, so water can occupy the space of the wall block itself — useful for moats and canals.

What separates Polished Tuff Wall from polished tuff?

Polished tuff is the full block; Polished Tuff Wall is the low wall shape crafted from six polished tuff blocks, aimed at battlements, borders, and edges rather than solid surfaces.

Why is Polished Tuff Wall non-renewable?

Tuff, the raw material behind every Polished Tuff Wall, generates in finite ore blobs between elevations -64 and 0. A non-renewable resource means the map supply cannot be farmed or regrown endlessly.
