Description

Polished Deepslate Stairs are a decorative stairs variant of polished deepslate that generates in ancient cities and serves builders as compact steps. Six polished deepslate blocks set in the stair pattern — one block in the top row, two in the middle row, three in the bottom row — craft into four Polished Deepslate Stairs, while a stonecutter cuts polished deepslate, cobbled deepslate, or deepslate into one stair each. Any pickaxe breaks Polished Deepslate Stairs; breaking without a pickaxe drops nothing. Polished Deepslate Stairs emit no light, never catch fire, and remain a non-renewable resource (a finite map supply that cannot be farmed).

Ancient cities offer ready-placed Polished Deepslate Stairs, a generation that arrived with Java Edition 1.19 and Bedrock 1.18.30. Java Edition snapshot 21w07a introduced the stairs under the name "polished grimstone stairs", and snapshot 21w08a applied the current name together with a new texture. Bedrock Edition received Polished Deepslate Stairs in version 1.17.0, and version 1.20.30 raised blast resistance for Polished Deepslate Stairs from 3.6 to 6. Builders pair Polished Deepslate Stairs with polished deepslate blocks so a staircase matches the rest of a polished deepslate construction.

Guide

How to get Polished Deepslate Stairs in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft from polished deepslate

Place six polished deepslate blocks in the stair pattern — one block in the top row, two in the middle, three in the bottom — and take four Polished Deepslate Stairs from the output slot.

  2. 2

    Cut blocks at the stonecutter

Put polished deepslate, cobbled deepslate, or deepslate into a stonecutter; each single block cuts into exactly one Polished Deepslate Stairs block.

  3. 3

    Visit an ancient city

Travel to an ancient city and mine the naturally generated Polished Deepslate Stairs with a pickaxe instead of crafting.

  4. 4

    Bring any pickaxe

Break Polished Deepslate Stairs with any pickaxe, wooden or better; breaking the stairs with another tool or a bare hand drops nothing.

The stonecutter saves material

A stonecutter turns one deepslate-family block into one stair, while the crafting table spends six polished deepslate blocks per four stairs.
