Description

Pale Oak Fence is a wooden barrier crafted from pale oak planks, the pale wood added with the Pale Garden biome in Minecraft 1.21.4. Craft four pale oak planks together with two sticks in a crafting table to get three fences at once. Although the fence is one block tall, it acts as 1.5 blocks high, so mobs and players cannot jump over it. The fence connects automatically to adjacent fences, fence gates, and solid blocks, forming continuous walls and pens. You can attach a lead to a Pale Oak Fence to tie up a mob like a horse or a wolf. The block is flammable, so keep it away from lava and fire. It works in both Java Edition 1.21.4 and Bedrock Edition.

How to craft and use a Pale Oak Fence in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Get pale oak planks

Chop a pale oak tree in the Pale Garden and turn the logs into pale oak planks, then craft a few sticks.

  2. 2

    Craft the fence

Place pale oak planks in the left and right columns of the middle and bottom rows with two sticks down the center to make three fences.

  3. 3

    Build a barrier

Place the fences in a line — they snap together and to solid blocks, reaching 1.5 blocks high so mobs cannot jump over.

  4. 4

    Make a pen

Close the loop with a Pale Oak Fence Gate so you can walk in and out while animals stay penned.

  5. 5

    Tie up a mob

Use a lead on a passive mob, then attach the other end to the fence post to keep it from wandering off.

It blocks jumps despite being one block tall

A fence renders one block high but has a 1.5-block collision box, so players and mobs can't hop over a single row.
