Description

Oxidized Copper Grate is the fully weathered stage of the perforated copper block family, a teal-tinted decorative panel introduced in Minecraft 1.21 Tricky Trials (Java 1.21, Bedrock 1.21.0, June 2024). Each Oxidized Copper Grate is crafted from a single Oxidized Block of Copper, yielding four grates on a crafting table or via a stonecutter, and the block must be mined with a stone pickaxe or better to drop as an item. With a hardness of 3 and a blast resistance of 6, Oxidized Copper Grate sits between stone and iron in durability.

Oxidized Copper Grate is transparent and perforated — players and mobs see through the holes, but entities cannot fall through and do not suffocate inside, mobs cannot spawn on top, and the block does not conduct redstone. Builders reach the oxidized teal tone either by crafting directly from an Oxidized Block of Copper, by letting an unwaxed Copper Grate weather through four stages over time, or by reversing the process with an axe or a lightning strike. Oxidized Copper Grate stacks to 64, can be waterlogged, and accepts a honeycomb to lock the weathered teal shade permanently — a practical choice for trial-chamber ruins, copper-themed factories, and industrial floors where a see-through, non-spawning surface is needed.

How to get and use Oxidized Copper Grate in Minecraft

  1. 1

Craft four grates from one block

Place a single Oxidized Block of Copper anywhere on a crafting table to receive four Oxidized Copper Grates, or feed the block to a stonecutter for the same one-to-four ratio.

  2. 2

Mine with a stone pickaxe or better

Break Oxidized Copper Grate using a stone, iron, diamond, or netherite pickaxe; using any weaker tool or a bare hand drops nothing and wastes the block.

  3. 3

Lock the teal shade with a honeycomb

Right-click Oxidized Copper Grate with a honeycomb to wax the surface and freeze the oxidized teal colour permanently, preventing any further weathering change.

  4. 4

    Build see-through, mob-safe floors

Lay Oxidized Copper Grate as a transparent ceiling or floor where light passes and mobs cannot spawn, then waterlog the block to let water flow through the perforations.

Reversing the weathering

To strip Oxidized Copper Grate back to an earlier copper stage, right-click it with an axe or let a lightning bolt strike nearby — both remove one oxidation layer at a time.

Frequently asked questions

Can you craft Oxidized Copper Grate directly?

Yes. Place one Oxidized Block of Copper on a crafting table or feed it to a stonecutter to receive four Oxidized Copper Grates without waiting for weathering.

What pickaxe do you need to mine Oxidized Copper Grate?

A stone pickaxe or better is required. Iron, diamond, and netherite pickaxes all work, but any weaker tool or a bare hand makes the block drop nothing.

Can mobs see through and spawn on Oxidized Copper Grate?

Mobs and players see through the perforations, but no mob spawns on top of Oxidized Copper Grate, and entities cannot fall through the holes or suffocate inside the block.

How do you stop Oxidized Copper Grate from changing further?

Right-click Oxidized Copper Grate with a honeycomb to wax the surface, which permanently locks the oxidized teal colour and prevents any further weathering.

Does Oxidized Copper Grate conduct redstone?

No. Oxidized Copper Grate is a transparent copper block and does not pass a redstone signal, so it cannot be used to extend redstone lines or power adjacent components.

Which version of Minecraft added Oxidized Copper Grate?

Oxidized Copper Grate was added with the Tricky Trials update, Minecraft Java Edition 1.21 and Bedrock Edition 1.21.0, released on 13 June 2024.
