Description

Ocelot Spawn Egg is a Creative-only item in Minecraft that spawns a live ocelot when used on any solid surface. The egg never appears in Survival gameplay — players obtain Ocelot Spawn Egg exclusively from the Creative inventory tab, by pressing pick block on an existing ocelot, or through console commands. Ocelot Spawn Egg stacks to 64 and counts as non-renewable, since crafting recipes, mob drops, and villager trades never supply the egg. Ocelot Spawn Egg was added in Java Edition 1.2.1 alongside the ocelot mob itself and the jungle biomes where wild ocelots spawn naturally.

Using Ocelot Spawn Egg on the ground or on any block face summons one adult ocelot, and using the egg on an existing adult ocelot produces a baby ocelot instead. Ocelot Spawn Egg can be renamed on an anvil so the spawned cat carries that custom name tag above its head, and a dispenser can fire the egg to spawn the mob automatically. Because ocelots only naturally generate in jungle biomes, Ocelot Spawn Egg is the practical way to place an ocelot anywhere — a foundation for jungle temple builds, tame-cat projects, and creeper-repelling farms, since the ocelot keeps nearby creepers at distance.

How to get and use an Ocelot Spawn Egg in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Open the Creative inventory

Switch to Creative mode and grab Ocelot Spawn Egg from the spawn egg tab, since the item never appears in Survival gameplay.

  2. 2

Pick block on an existing ocelot

Middle-click any wild ocelot in a jungle biome to clone Ocelot Spawn Egg directly into your hotbar.

  3. 3

Use the egg on a surface

Right-click the top, side, or bottom of any block to summon one adult ocelot at that location.

  4. 4

Rename it on an anvil (optional)

Place Ocelot Spawn Egg in an anvil with a name tag to make every spawned ocelot carry that custom name.

Survival limitation

Ocelot Spawn Egg cannot be crafted, traded, or dropped in Survival; console commands are the only Survival access path.

Frequently asked questions

Can you craft an Ocelot Spawn Egg in Survival?

No. Ocelot Spawn Egg is never produced by any crafting recipe, furnace, villager trade, or mob drop, and it is barred from the Survival inventory.

How do you get an Ocelot Spawn Egg?

Grab Ocelot Spawn Egg from the Creative inventory tab, middle-click an existing ocelot to pick it up, or run a console command — there is no Survival route.

What does the Ocelot Spawn Egg do when used?

Ocelot Spawn Egg spawns one adult ocelot on the clicked block face, and using the egg on an existing adult ocelot produces a baby ocelot instead.

Which Minecraft version added the Ocelot Spawn Egg?

Ocelot Spawn Egg was added in Java Edition 1.2.1, the same update that introduced ocelots and jungle biomes, and reached Bedrock in Pocket Edition Alpha 0.12.1.

Is the Ocelot Spawn Egg renewable?

No. Ocelot Spawn Egg is classified as non-renewable because nothing in the game ever generates a new one — it exists only as a Creative or command item.

Can a dispenser use the Ocelot Spawn Egg?

Yes. A dispenser can fire Ocelot Spawn Egg to spawn the ocelot directly in front of itself, which is useful for automated mob farms.
