Description

Raw Mutton drops from adult sheep killed in Minecraft, yielding 1 to 2 pieces per sheep when the animal is not on fire. The Looting enchantment raises that ceiling: Looting I gives 1–3, Looting II gives 1–4, and Looting III gives up to 5 Raw Mutton per kill. A sheep caught in lava or slain with a Fire Aspect sword or Flame bow dies burning, so the drop arrives already cooked as Cooked Mutton instead. At only 2 hunger points and 1.2 saturation, Raw Mutton is the weakest of the sheep-derived foods, so a furnace, smoker, or campfire is almost always worth the extra step.

Cooking Raw Mutton into Cooked Mutton triples the hunger restoration to 6 points and lifts saturation to 9.6, matching Cooked Salmon and rivaling Cooked Porkchop as a top-tier food. A smoker finishes each piece in about 3.5 seconds, half the time a furnace takes, making a smoker the efficient choice for bulk sheep farms. Raw Mutton is renewable (sheep breed from any two adults fed wheat), stackable to 64, and was added in Java Edition 1.8 and Bedrock Edition 0.15.0.
