Description

Mud Brick Wall is a decorative wall block introduced in Java Edition 1.19 (The Wild Update), crafted from mud bricks native to the mangrove swamp biome. To craft Mud Brick Wall, arrange 6 mud bricks in two horizontal rows of 3 on a crafting table to receive 6 Mud Brick Wall pieces. Alternatively, a stonecutter converts 1 mud brick directly into 1 Mud Brick Wall at a 1:1 ratio. Mud bricks themselves require 4 packed mud per block; packed mud is produced by placing any dripstone block directly beneath a mud block, which dries it naturally. Mud blocks generate in mangrove swamp biomes or can be created by using a water bottle on a dirt or mycelium block.

Mud Brick Wall functions like other wall types — Mud Brick Wall auto-connects to adjacent walls, fences, and solid blocks on all four cardinal sides. When Mud Brick Wall stands alone or connects only horizontally, a center post rises to roughly 1.5 blocks tall, preventing players from jumping over without a running jump; when a solid block is placed directly on top, the center post lowers to 1 block. Mobs pathfind around Mud Brick Wall as a full 1-block obstacle and cannot jump over it under normal conditions, making Mud Brick Wall an excellent animal pen or garden border. Mud Brick Wall shares the blast resistance of 6.0 with mud bricks and is mined fastest with any pickaxe tier — silk touch is not required, as any pickaxe drops Mud Brick Wall itself. The warm, earthy texture of Mud Brick Wall pairs naturally with mangrove wood, bamboo planks, and terracotta, offering a distinct alternative to stone or nether brick walls in rustic and tropical builds.

Guide

How to craft and use Mud Brick Wall in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Obtain mud and mud bricks

Obtain mud blocks from a mangrove swamp biome, or create mud by using a water bottle on a dirt or mycelium block. Place a dripstone block directly beneath a mud block to dry it into packed mud. Craft 4 packed mud blocks in a 2x2 square to get 1 mud brick block.

  2. 2

    Craft on a crafting table

Open a crafting table and fill two complete horizontal rows (top row and middle row, 3 slots each) with mud bricks — 6 mud bricks total — to receive 6 Mud Brick Wall pieces.

  3. 3

    Or use a stonecutter

Alternatively, place mud bricks in a stonecutter to convert 1 mud brick into 1 Mud Brick Wall at a 1:1 ratio, which is more efficient when you need fewer pieces.

  4. 4

    Place and auto-connect

Place Mud Brick Wall blocks in the world — each Mud Brick Wall automatically connects to adjacent walls, fences, and solid blocks on all four sides. A standalone Mud Brick Wall raises a center post to about 1.5 blocks tall; placing a solid block on top lowers the post to 1 block.

  5. 5

    Build pens and garden borders

Use Mud Brick Wall to build animal pens, garden borders, or building exteriors — mobs treat Mud Brick Wall as a full 1-block barrier and cannot jump over it under normal conditions.

Tip

Mud Brick Wall cannot be converted back into mud bricks in a crafting table or stonecutter. Plan your quantities before crafting to avoid waste.

Frequently asked questions

How do you craft Mud Brick Wall in Minecraft?

To craft Mud Brick Wall, place 6 mud bricks in two horizontal rows of 3 on a crafting table (filling the top and middle rows entirely). This yields 6 Mud Brick Wall pieces. A stonecutter offers a 1:1 alternative: place 1 mud brick to receive 1 Mud Brick Wall.

What Minecraft version added Mud Brick Wall?

Mud Brick Wall was added in Java Edition 1.19, known as The Wild Update, released in 2022. Mud Brick Wall is also available in Bedrock Edition starting from the equivalent release.

Can mobs jump over Mud Brick Wall?

No. Mobs treat Mud Brick Wall as a full 1-block-tall barrier and cannot jump over Mud Brick Wall under normal conditions. Players, however, can jump over a standalone Mud Brick Wall because the center post rises to about 1.5 blocks, requiring a running jump.

What tool mines Mud Brick Wall fastest?

Any pickaxe tier mines Mud Brick Wall fastest. A wooden pickaxe is sufficient to break Mud Brick Wall and receive the block as a drop. Silk touch is not required — any pickaxe drops Mud Brick Wall itself.

What is the difference between Mud Brick Wall and a regular stone wall?

Mud Brick Wall is functionally identical to stone walls in terms of auto-connecting mechanics and mob pathing. The key differences are material origin — Mud Brick Wall comes from mud bricks (a 1.19 material) versus stone — and blast resistance: both Mud Brick Wall and stone wall share a blast resistance of 6.0. Aesthetically, Mud Brick Wall has a warm, earthy brown texture suited for mangrove and tropical builds, while stone wall has a cooler grey tone.
