Magenta Banner is a non-solid decoration block from the 16-color Minecraft banner family, crafted from six magenta wool and one stick — and once crafted, the base color cannot be changed. Magenta Banner also generates naturally on the outside walls of end cities, decorated with a black chevron and an inverted chevron, since Java Edition 1.9 and Bedrock Edition 1.2.0. Shepherd and cartographer villagers sell banners as an alternative source. Any tool breaks a placed Magenta Banner, and an axe works fastest.

Placed on the ground in 16 facings or mounted on a wall, Magenta Banner sways gently, has no collision — entities walk straight through — and shows a hitbox one block high despite looking two blocks tall. A loom layers up to six patterns onto Magenta Banner; every pattern requires one dye, and banner pattern items are not consumed. Using Magenta Banner on a cauldron filled with water washes off the top pattern layer. Crafting a plain shield together with Magenta Banner copies the design onto the shield and consumes one banner, keeping the shield's durability and enchantments. In Java Edition, using a map on a placed Magenta Banner sets a map marker in the same magenta shade; the marker vanishes when the banner is destroyed unless the map is locked in a cartography table.
