How to craft and use an Iron Chestplate in Minecraft

Gather 8 iron ingots
Mine iron ore with a stone pickaxe or better, then smelt the raw iron in a furnace until you have 8 iron ingots.

Lay out the chestplate shape
On a crafting table, fill the whole top row, both side columns, and the center column, leaving only the top-center cell empty.

Equip the chestplate
Drag it into the chest armor slot, or hold it and right-click to put it on instantly.

Enchant for more defense
Use an enchanting table to add Protection IV, Unbreaking III, or Mending for longer-lasting protection.

Repair when it wears down
Combine two damaged chestplates or add iron ingots on an anvil to restore durability.
Armored zombies and skeletons can spawn already wearing an iron chestplate and may drop it rarely when killed.
