Heavy Weighted Pressure Plate
Heavy Weighted Pressure Plate emits a redstone signal of 1 to 15 based on the number of entities standing on the surface, and is crafted from two iron ingots.
Also known as: iron pressure plate
Description
The strength-by-tens behavior makes Heavy Weighted Pressure Plate the tool of choice for measuring crowds of mobs or large item drops, where a gold Light Weighted Pressure Plate would saturate at signal 1 almost immediately. Survival farmers wire Heavy Weighted Pressure Plate to counting circuits that track how many chickens or villagers stand in a pen, since each mob contributes one entity to the count regardless of stack size. Heavy Weighted Pressure Plate was added to Java Edition 1.5 and Bedrock Edition 0.13.0, behaves identically across both editions, and does not burn or catch fire from lava. For any redstone build that needs to read a large number of moving entities, the iron plate delivers a steady, predictable scale that gold plates cannot match.

Guide
How to use a Heavy Weighted Pressure Plate in Minecraft
-
1
Craft the plate
Place two iron ingots side by side in a crafting grid to produce one Heavy Weighted Pressure Plate.
-
2
Place the plate on a solid block
Set the Heavy Weighted Pressure Plate on top of a solid block where mobs or dropped items will pass over.
-
3
Let entities rest on the surface
Players, mobs, dropped items, arrows, and experience orbs on the plate each count as one entity toward the signal.
-
4
Read the redstone output
The signal rises one level for every ten entities, starting at 1 and capping at 15 for 141 or more entities.
-
5
Switch to a gold plate for light loads
Swap in a Light Weighted Pressure Plate when counting single entities, because gold scales one signal level per entity.
A dropped stack of 64 items counts as one entity, not 64 — scatter separate drops to raise the signal faster.

Frequently asked questions
How do you craft a Heavy Weighted Pressure Plate?
Place two iron ingots side by side in a crafting grid; the recipe yields one Heavy Weighted Pressure Plate.
How does the redstone signal scale?
The signal adds one level for every ten entities on the plate, starting at 1 for one to ten entities and capping at 15 for 141 or more.
Does a stack of dropped items count as more than one entity?
No. A dropped stack registers as a single entity regardless of stack size, so 64 sand in one stack adds only one to the count.
What is the difference between a heavy and a light pressure plate?
A Heavy Weighted Pressure Plate of iron needs ten entities per signal level, while the gold Light Weighted Pressure Plate raises the signal by one for each single entity.
What can trigger a Heavy Weighted Pressure Plate?
Players, mobs, dropped items, arrows, experience orbs, and fishing bobbers activate the plate; spectators and markers cannot.
Is the Heavy Weighted Pressure Plate renewable?
Yes. Iron is renewable through iron golems and zombie drops, so the plate can be crafted again indefinitely.
