Description

Grass Block is the most-encountered surface in the entire game: it generates as the top layer of plains, forests, taigas, jungles, savannas, and many other Overworld biomes. The texture has three faces — bright vegetation on top, mottled grass-and-dirt on the sides, and pure dirt on the bottom. The exact green tint is biome-dependent, ranging from saturated dark in jungles to dusty olive in savannas to washed cyan-green in swamps.

The block spreads automatically: any dirt touching it sideways or on top, lit at light level four or higher, will gradually convert to the same surface over random ticks. Conversely, if the top face is buried by an opaque block, light fails, and the surface reverts to dirt within a few minutes. Bone meal applied to the top spawns short grass and small flowers across nearby tiles, the fastest way to decorate a meadow or fill a garden. Mining without silk touch drops plain dirt, so collecting the green variant for builds requires the appropriate enchantment.
