Description

Granite Stairs are the stair variant of granite, added in Java Edition 1.14 and Bedrock Edition 1.9.0. Desert villages generate Granite Stairs naturally, giving builders a ready-made source. Six granite blocks on a crafting table return four Granite Stairs, and a stonecutter converts one granite block into one Granite Stair. Granite Stairs break with any pickaxe — a wooden pickaxe is the listed minimum tool — and mining by hand drops nothing. Granite Stairs stack to 64, carry hardness 1.5 and blast resistance 6 (resistance to TNT and creeper explosions), and never burn or suffer lava damage.

Granite Stairs let the player change elevation without jumping, keeping granite towers, desert-style bases, and cliff paths walkable. Granite Stairs can be waterlogged — water fills the same block space without blocking movement — which suits fountains, canals, and underwater entrances. Granite Stairs are not flammable, and granite shares the blast resistance of stone, so granite serves as a stone substitute in walls. A stonecutter stretches six granite blocks into six Granite Stairs, while the crafting recipe returns only four.

Guide

How to get Granite Stairs in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Mine granite underground

Granite generates in large pockets beneath the surface, and granite blocks also appear in houses of desert villages. Mine granite with any pickaxe to collect raw blocks.

  2. 2

Craft four stairs from six granite

Open a crafting table and fill one side column plus the bottom row of the 3×3 grid with granite — six blocks total. The recipe returns four Granite Stairs.

  3. 3

    Cut granite at a stonecutter

Place granite into a stonecutter to convert one granite block into one Granite Stair, with no pattern to arrange.

  4. 4

    Harvest stairs in desert villages

Granite Stairs generate in desert villages in Java Edition since 1.14 and in Bedrock Edition since 1.10.0. A pickaxe harvests village Granite Stairs for reuse in other builds.

Bring a pickaxe

Granite Stairs mined without a pickaxe drop nothing, and a wooden pickaxe already meets the minimum tool requirement.
