Description

Granite Slab is the half-height slab variant of granite — a decorative building block that never generates naturally in Minecraft worlds. Crafting places three granite blocks in one row on the grid and yields six Granite Slabs, while a stonecutter turns one granite block into two Granite Slabs at the same ratio. Harvesting requires a pickaxe: a wooden pickaxe or better secures the drop, and a Granite Slab mined without a pickaxe drops nothing. Granite Slab has a hardness of 1.5, a blast resistance of 6, emits no light, and never catches fire from lava.

Two identical Granite Slabs combine into a full double slab for seamless granite pillars and walls. Granite Slab is waterloggable (water can sit inside the slab's block space), a trait that suits pool edges and fountain rims. Minecraft introduced Granite Slab in Java Edition 1.14 and Bedrock Edition 1.9.0. Builders use Granite Slab for countertops, window sills, and floor borders where a full granite block reads too bulky. For tiered seating and stepped paths, Granite Slab provides the half-block geometry that solid granite cannot.

Guide

How to craft Granite Slab in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Gather three granite blocks

Granite Slab recipes use granite as the only ingredient, so three granite blocks cover one crafting batch. Each batch produces six Granite Slabs.

  2. 2

    Open a crafting table

The recipe fills one horizontal row and needs the 3×3 grid of a crafting table. The 2×2 inventory crafting grid is too narrow for a three-block row.

  3. 3

    Fill one row with granite

The three granite blocks go side by side in any horizontal row of the crafting grid. The result slot then shows six Granite Slabs to collect.

  4. 4

Use a stonecutter as an alternative

A stonecutter converts one granite block into two Granite Slabs. The stonecutter thus matches the crafting-table ratio of two Granite Slabs per granite block.

Keep a pickaxe ready

Granite Slab drops nothing when mined without a pickaxe. A wooden pickaxe or better both breaks and harvests Granite Slab.

Frequently asked questions

How do you craft a Granite Slab in Minecraft?

Place three granite blocks in one horizontal row on a crafting grid to receive six Granite Slabs. A stonecutter offers the same ratio, giving two Granite Slabs per granite block.

Does Granite Slab generate naturally in Minecraft?

Granite Slab does not generate naturally in any world. Every Granite Slab comes from player crafting or stonecutting.

What tool do you need to break a Granite Slab?

Any pickaxe breaks a Granite Slab, and a wooden pickaxe or better is required to get the drop. A Granite Slab mined without a pickaxe drops nothing.

How durable is a Granite Slab against explosions?

Granite Slab has a blast resistance of 6 and a hardness of 1.5. Granite Slab also never burns and never catches fire from lava.

When was Granite Slab added to Minecraft?

Java Edition received Granite Slab in version 1.14. Bedrock Edition followed in version 1.9.0, and Bedrock later reduced the slab's hardness from 2 to 1.5 in version 1.21.20.

Can Granite Slab be placed underwater?

Granite Slab is waterloggable, meaning water can occupy the same block space as the slab. Pools and water features work around granite half-blocks without problems.
