How to find and mine Gold Ore in Minecraft
-
1
Get an iron pickaxe
Gold ore requires an iron, diamond, or netherite pickaxe. A wooden or stone pickaxe breaks the block but drops nothing.
-
2
Dig to the right height
Search below Y=32, with the most gold around Y=-16. In badlands biomes gold ore also spawns near the surface up to Y=256.
-
3
Mine the ore
Break the block to drop raw gold. Use Fortune to multiply the drop, or Silk Touch to collect the ore block itself.
-
4
Smelt raw gold
Place raw gold in a furnace or blast furnace with any fuel to turn it into gold ingots.
Badlands biomes are the fastest place to gather gold early — exposed ore veins sit on the surface and need no deep mining.
