Description

Glow Ink Sac is a Minecraft item dropped by Glow Squids that makes sign text and item frames glow in the dark. Glow Ink Sac was added in Minecraft 1.17 'Caves & Cliffs Part I' on June 8, 2021, and works in both Java and Bedrock editions. Players obtain Glow Ink Sac by killing Glow Squids, which spawn in dark underwater areas at light level 0, typically at Y=30 or below in any biome. Each Glow Squid drops 1-3 Glow Ink Sacs when killed with a sword, trident, or bow. Glow Ink Sac has two main uses: right-clicking any sign or hanging sign with Glow Ink Sac causes the text to glow with an outline visible in the dark, and combining one Glow Ink Sac with an Item Frame on a crafting table produces a Glow Item Frame that highlights the framed item. Glow Ink Sac itself does not emit any light when placed or held; it only enables glow effects on signs and item frames. Applying a regular black Ink Sac to a glowing sign reverts the text to plain non-glowing form. Glow Ink Sac is fully renewable because Glow Squids respawn naturally in dark water.
