Glow Berries are a renewable food and light source introduced in Minecraft 1.17 (Caves & Cliffs), found growing on cave vines that hang from the ceilings of lush caves. A mature cave vine drops Glow Berries when broken, and right-clicking harvests the berries without destroying the plant — the same interact-to-harvest move as sweet berry bushes, though a picked segment never regrows its berries. Glow Berries emit light level 14 (the brightest value a crop can produce, enough to prevent hostile mobs from spawning nearby). Light level 14 rivals a torch and needs no fuel, so lava-free bases rely on cave vines for permanent underground lighting. Each berry restores 2 hunger points and 0.4 saturation (1.2 in Bedrock Edition), so Glow Berries serve as emergency food rather than a staple.

Glow Berries are fully renewable: a cave vine grows downward on its own over time (up to 25 more blocks), and each newly grown segment has an 11% chance of bearing berries, while bone meal applied to a bare segment instantly makes it bear berries again — bone meal never extends the vine itself. A single lush-cave vine can therefore seed an entire light-and-food farm. Glow Berries also add a 30% composting chance per berry in a composter, turning surplus harvest into bone meal for the next cycle. Builders hang Glow Berries under overhangs, stairs, and ceilings to create natural glowing vines without torches. The warm yellow-green tone pairs with moss, spore blossoms, and azalea leaves for organic lush-cave interiors. Place Glow Berries on the underside of any solid block to start a new vine in Java Edition and Bedrock Edition alike.
