Description

Diorite Stairs are the stair variant of diorite, a block of igneous rock found in large pockets underground, added to Minecraft in Java Edition 1.14 and Bedrock Edition 1.9.0. A crafting table turns six diorite blocks into four Diorite Stairs, while the stonecutter cuts one diorite into one stair. Any pickaxe, wooden included, harvests Diorite Stairs, and breaks without a pickaxe drop nothing. Snowy tundra villages generate Diorite Stairs as parts of their buildings.
Diorite Stairs pair naturally with diorite and polished diorite in single-stone architecture. Diorite Stairs neither burn in fire nor get destroyed by lava, and waterlogging keeps a water source inside a placed stair's cell. Diorite supply never gates a staircase: two cobblestone plus two Nether Quartz craft two diorite blocks, and the stonecutter turns four diorite into four Diorite Stairs where the crafting table needs six for the same output.

Guide

How to get Diorite Stairs in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Gather diorite

Mine diorite — a block of igneous rock found in large pockets underground — with any pickaxe. Two cobblestone plus two Nether Quartz on a crafting table also craft two diorite blocks.

  2. 2

    Craft four stair blocks

Place six diorite blocks in the staircase pattern across a crafting grid. One crafting operation outputs four Diorite Stairs.

  3. 3

    Cut diorite on a stonecutter

Feed diorite to a stonecutter instead: one diorite becomes one Diorite Stairs, so four diorite yield four stair blocks without a crafting table.

  4. 4

    Collect stairs in a village

Snowy tundra villages generate Diorite Stairs as parts of their buildings, so snowy-biome builders find ready-made stairs to mine.

Waterlogging

Diorite Stairs are waterloggable: a stair placed inside a water source keeps the water in its cell instead of replacing the liquid.

How many Diorite Stairs fit in one stack?

Can fire or lava destroy Diorite Stairs?

No. Diorite Stairs are neither flammable nor lava-susceptible, so neither fire nor lava destroys the stair blocks.
