How to craft and use a Diamond Helmet in Minecraft
-
1
Gather five diamonds
Mine diamond ore between Y-59 and Y-16 with an iron or diamond pickaxe to collect at least five diamonds.
-
2
Craft the helmet
Open a crafting table and place the five diamonds across the whole top row and the two outer cells of the middle row, leaving the center empty.
-
3
Equip the helmet
Move the Diamond Helmet into the head armor slot in your inventory so it starts absorbing damage.
-
4
Enchant for more protection
Use an enchanting table or anvil to add Protection, Respiration, or Unbreaking and extend the helmet's lifespan.
-
5
Upgrade to netherite
At a smithing table, combine the helmet with a Netherite Upgrade Template and one netherite ingot to get a Netherite Helmet.
The smithing-template upgrade path was added in Java 1.20; in earlier versions a netherite ingot alone was enough.
