Description
An iron pickaxe is the minimum required tool. Each block drops one emerald, with bonus rolls under Fortune. Emeralds have one major use: they are the universal currency of villager trading. Players exchange them for enchanted books, diamond gear, mended tools, and rarities like elytra repair via mending books — all without crafting anything themselves. Nine emeralds compress to a decorative block, but the gem is so valuable that most players hoard rather than place. Silk Touch returns the ore intact, perfect for collectors who want the bright green-on-grey contrast preserved in their builds.

Find a mountain biome
Deepslate Emerald Ore only generates beneath windswept peaks, jagged peaks, frozen peaks, and stony shores biomes. Travel to any of these mountain biomes before digging — searching in plains or forests will yield nothing.

Dig down to y=0 or below
The ore generates in the deepslate layer, roughly between y=−16 and y=0. Press F3 to check your coordinates and descend until the surrounding stone turns into deepslate (the dark, cracked rock).

Mine with an iron pickaxe or better
Deepslate Emerald Ore requires at least an iron pickaxe to break. A diamond or netherite pickaxe will mine it faster — the block has a hardness of 4.5, so it takes about 1.25 seconds with iron.

Search block by block — no veins
Unlike every other ore, Deepslate Emerald Ore does NOT form veins or clusters. Each ore is a single isolated block, making branch mining or strip mining the most reliable strategy.

Enchant your pickaxe for bonus drops
Use Fortune III to receive up to 4 emeralds from a single Deepslate Emerald Ore block. If you want the ore block itself for display or storage, use Silk Touch instead — it drops the intact block.
