Description

Cut Sandstone is a variant of sandstone obtained through crafting and stonecutting. Placing 4 sandstone blocks in a 2×2 crafting grid yields 4 Cut Sandstone blocks. A stonecutter converts 1 sandstone into 1 Cut Sandstone at a 1:1 ratio. Cut Sandstone also generates naturally in desert villages, desert pyramids, and warm ocean ruins. Mining Cut Sandstone requires a pickaxe — a wooden pickaxe is enough — and mining without a pickaxe drops nothing. Cut Sandstone stacks to 64 and appeared in Java Edition 1.2.4.

Unlike sand, Cut Sandstone is never affected by gravity, so ceilings and overhangs need no support blocks underneath. Desert villages and desert pyramids generate Cut Sandstone as a building material, and warm ocean ruins do the same underwater. Cut Sandstone therefore fits desert-themed walls, floors, and temple-style roofs naturally. A wooden pickaxe is the weakest tool that still mines Cut Sandstone. The 2×2 crafting recipe turns a stack of sandstone into the same amount of Cut Sandstone without waste.

Guide

How to get Cut Sandstone in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Gather 4 sandstone blocks

Cut Sandstone crafts from regular sandstone only, at 4 sandstone blocks per crafting attempt.

  2. 2

    Open a crafting grid

Place the 4 sandstone blocks in a 2×2 square inside a crafting grid. The output slot shows 4 Cut Sandstone blocks.

  3. 3

    Use a stonecutter instead

Put 1 sandstone block into a stonecutter to receive 1 Cut Sandstone block. The stonecutter converts sandstone one block at a time.

  4. 4

    Mine natural Cut Sandstone

Desert villages, desert pyramids, and warm ocean ruins generate Cut Sandstone as a building material. Bring a pickaxe, because mining without a pickaxe drops nothing.

  5. 5

    Build without support blocks

Unlike sand, Cut Sandstone never falls, so ceilings and floating platforms made of Cut Sandstone hold without supports.

A wooden pickaxe is enough

A wooden pickaxe is the weakest tool that still drops Cut Sandstone, and Cut Sandstone stacks to 64 for compact transport.
