Description

Crimson Button is the Nether wood variant of the wooden button, crafted from a single Crimson Planks on the crafting grid. Like every wooden button, Crimson Button stays pressed longer than a stone button — 1.5 seconds. A fired arrow or a thrown trident touching the hitbox also activates Crimson Button. Any tool breaks Crimson Button, and the button always drops itself; an axe works fastest. Crimson Button is renewable, stacks to 64, and has hardness 0.5 and blast resistance 0.5 (resistance to creeper and TNT explosions). Crimson Button was added in Java Edition 1.16 and Bedrock Edition 1.16.0.

While active, Crimson Button powers adjacent redstone dust, repeaters, and comparators to the maximum signal strength of 15 and strongly powers the attachment block. An arrow or trident left stuck in Crimson Button keeps the signal on until the projectile despawns after one minute or a player picks the projectile up, so a signal holds without anyone standing at the switch. Crimson Button attaches to the side, top, or bottom face of any full opaque block. Being Nether wood, Crimson Button never burns and cannot fuel a furnace, unlike overworld wooden buttons that each smelt 0.5 items.

Guide

How to Craft and Use a Crimson Button in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft the button

Place one Crimson Planks anywhere on the crafting grid to produce one Crimson Button.

  2. 2

    Attach the button

Use Crimson Button on the side, top, or bottom face of a full opaque block to attach the button.

  3. 3

    Press the button

Use Crimson Button by hand for a 1.5-second signal, or shoot an arrow into Crimson Button to keep the signal on until the arrow despawns after one minute or gets picked up.

  4. 4

    Wire the redstone signal

Lay redstone dust next to Crimson Button or point a repeater away from the button; powered components run at signal strength 15.

  5. 5

    Break and move the button

Break Crimson Button with any tool — an axe is fastest — and the button drops as an item; moving or destroying the block behind Crimson Button also pops the button off.

Nether wood reminder

Crimson Button cannot smelt anything in a furnace, because Nether wood buttons are not a fuel source, unlike overworld wooden buttons.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a Crimson Button stay pressed?

A Crimson Button stays active for 1.5 seconds after a player presses the button. An arrow or trident stuck in Crimson Button keeps the signal on until the projectile despawns after one minute or a player picks the projectile up.

Can a Crimson Button be used as furnace fuel?

No. Crimson Button is Nether wood, and Nether wood buttons cannot smelt items in a furnace. Overworld wooden buttons smelt 0.5 items per button.

What is the difference between a Crimson Button and a stone button?

Crimson Button is a wooden button, staying pressed longer than a stone button, and a fired arrow or thrown trident can also press Crimson Button.

Which mobs can press a Crimson Button?

Mobs cannot press buttons directly. Arrows fired by skeletons or dispensers can still activate Crimson Button.

Does a Crimson Button burn in fire or lava?

Crimson Button is not flammable and carries the non-flammable wood tag. In Java Edition, water or lava flowing into the button's space removes Crimson Button and drops the button as an item.
