Copper Chestplate
Copper Chestplate is the vanilla copper-tier chest armor added in Java 1.21.9, crafted from eight copper ingots for four defense points at 176 durability.
Description
A player enchants the Copper Chestplate with standard armor enchantments on an Enchanting Table — Protection (Protection), Fire Protection (Fire Protection), Blast Protection (Blast Protection), Projectile Protection (Projectile Protection), Thorns (Thorns), and Unbreaking (Unbreaking) — and Mending (Mending) keeps the chestplate repaired from experience orbs. Two damaged Copper Chestplates combine on a grindstone or crafting grid for a 5% durability bonus, while a copper ingot on an anvil restores 25% of maximum durability and preserves existing enchantments. With stats between Leather and Iron, the Copper Chestplate suits an early-game survival bridge piece before iron becomes plentiful, and the warm orange-brown tint makes Copper Chestplate a recognisable armor choice for the new copper equipment tier.

How to craft a Copper Chestplate in Minecraft
-
1
Gather eight copper ingots
Smelt eight raw copper (mined copper ore drops 2–5 raw copper per block with a Fortune pickaxe) in a furnace, or collect eight ingots dropped by Drowned mobs.
-
2
Open a crafting table
Right-click a crafting table to open the 3x3 crafting grid, since the inventory 2x2 grid is too small for a chestplate recipe.
-
3
Place the ingots in the chestplate shape
Fill the top row with three copper ingots, then place one ingot in the far-left and far-right slots of the middle row, leaving the center slot empty.
-
4
Collect the Copper Chestplate
Drag the finished Copper Chestplate from the result slot into the inventory. The recipe consumes exactly eight copper ingots and produces one chestplate.
-
5
Equip it in the chest slot
Open the inventory and place the Copper Chestplate in the chest armor slot to gain its four defense points and 176 durability.
The Copper Chestplate requires Java Edition 1.21.9 or newer (Bedrock Edition 1.21.100). On older versions the recipe returns no result because the item does not exist.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Copper Chestplate in vanilla Minecraft?
Yes. The Copper Chestplate was added to vanilla Minecraft in Java Edition 1.21.9 (snapshot 25w31a) and Bedrock Edition 1.21.100, as part of the new copper equipment tier.
How do you craft a Copper Chestplate?
Place eight copper ingots in the standard chestplate shape on a crafting table (top row full, plus the far-left and far-right slots of the middle row) to produce one Copper Chestplate.
How much protection does a Copper Chestplate give?
A Copper Chestplate grants four defense points (four armor icons), with 176 durability in Java Edition and 177 in Bedrock Edition, plus zero armor toughness and enchantability of 8.
Is the Copper Chestplate renewable?
Yes. Copper is a renewable resource because Drowned mobs drop copper ingots and Copper Golems drop 1–3 ingots on death, so a player can farm the eight ingots needed for a Copper Chestplate indefinitely.
Can you enchant a Copper Chestplate?
Yes. A Copper Chestplate accepts standard chestplate enchantments such as Protection, Fire Protection, Blast Protection, Projectile Protection, Thorns, Unbreaking, and Mending.
How do you repair a Copper Chestplate?
Combine two damaged Copper Chestplates on a grindstone or crafting table for a 5% durability bonus, or use a copper ingot on an anvil to restore 25% of maximum durability while preserving enchantments.
