Copper Boots sit between leather and chainmail in the armor ladder, with an enchantability value of 8 that makes Copper Boots easier to enchant than iron boots. The set is renewable, because copper ingots are produced indefinitely from copper ore smelted in a furnace or blast furnace.

Copper Boots are a practical early-game upgrade over leather boots because the higher durability of 143 outlasts leather's 65, while the matching copper chestplate, leggings and helmet complete a five-point full-set bonus that fills the gap before iron gear. Worn boots can be repaired on an anvil with copper ingots, where each ingot restores 25 percent of the maximum durability and preserves existing enchantments, or two damaged pairs can be combined in a grindstone for a 5 percent bonus at the cost of any enchantments. Zombies, skeletons and bogged have a small chance to spawn already wearing Copper Boots, and a damaged pair smelts back into a single copper nugget when fuel is scarce.
