Description

Chiseled Nether Bricks is a decorative variant of Nether Bricks engraved with the face of a wither skeleton, added to Java Edition in 1.16 and to Bedrock Edition in 1.16.0. Any pickaxe, wooden included, breaks Chiseled Nether Bricks, and mining by hand drops nothing. Chiseled Nether Bricks has a hardness of 2, a blast resistance of 6 (resistance to creeper and TNT explosions), and stacks to 64 per inventory slot. Chiseled Nether Bricks emits no light and never catches fire, even in contact with lava.

Chiseled Nether Bricks works as accent trim in Nether-themed builds: the carved wither skeleton face reads clearly against plain Nether Bricks on walls, floor borders, and column tops. Two Nether Brick Slabs, placed one above the other in a crafting grid, yield one Chiseled Nether Bricks. A stonecutter cuts Chiseled Nether Bricks straight from Nether Bricks as a slab-free alternative. Builders pair Chiseled Nether Bricks with plain Nether Bricks when a fortress wall needs a carved highlight that stays visible from a distance.

Guide

How to craft Chiseled Nether Bricks in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Collect two Nether Brick Slabs

Collect two Nether Brick Slabs — the complete ingredient list for one Chiseled Nether Bricks.

  2. 2

Stack the slabs in one column

Place one Nether Brick Slab in the crafting grid cell directly above the other Nether Brick Slab so the pair fills a single column two cells tall.

  3. 3

Take Chiseled Nether Bricks from the output slot

Drag the finished Chiseled Nether Bricks from the crafting output slot into the inventory.

  4. 4

Cut Chiseled Nether Bricks at a stonecutter

Use a stonecutter on Nether Bricks to skip the slab step entirely.

  5. 5

    Mine with any pickaxe

Break placed Chiseled Nether Bricks with any pickaxe from wooden upward; mining without a pickaxe drops nothing.

Make the carved face count

The engraved wither skeleton face separates Chiseled Nether Bricks from plain Nether Bricks — alternate rows of carved and plain bricks so the pattern stays readable from a distance.
