Description

Cherry Shelf is a decorative storage block that holds and displays up to three item stacks, one stack per slot. Each slot of Cherry Shelf takes a full stack of any stackable item or a single non-stackable item, and the stored items show in front of the block like in an item frame. Using a slot of an unpowered Cherry Shelf swaps the slot contents with the item in the player's main hand. Cherry Shelf is crafted from 6 Stripped Cherry Logs, which yield 6 shelves, and an axe breaks the block fastest, though bare hands work as well. Cherry Shelf was added to Java Edition in 1.21.9 and to Bedrock Edition in 1.21.111.

Redstone changes how Cherry Shelf works: a powered shelf swaps all three of its slots with the three rightmost hotbar slots in a single action. A redstone comparator (a block that reads container contents) placed against the back of Cherry Shelf outputs signal 1 for the left slot, 2 for the middle slot, and 4 for the right slot, reaching 7 when all three slots hold items. Hoppers and droppers fill Cherry Shelf from left to right, and a hopper underneath empties the block. Cherry Shelf also burns in a furnace as fuel and smelts 1.5 items per shelf.

How to use Cherry Shelf in Minecraft

    Craft the shelves

    A Crafting Table turns 6 Stripped Cherry Logs, placed as two horizontal rows of three with the middle row empty, into 6 Cherry Shelves.

    Place the block

    The Use Item/Place Block key places Cherry Shelf, and the front of the block points opposite to the direction the player faces during placement.

    Store items

    Using a slot of Cherry Shelf with an item in hand swaps the main-hand item with the contents of that slot.

    Add redstone power

    A redstone signal changes the front texture of Cherry Shelf to the powered look, and using any slot then swaps all stored items with the rightmost hotbar slots.

    Connect neighbors

    Two or three powered shelves facing the same direction connect side by side, so a single use swaps 6 or 9 hotbar slots.

Comparator facing

A redstone comparator reads Cherry Shelf only when the back of Cherry Shelf faces the comparator.
