Description

Cherry Pressure Plate is a wooden redstone sensor that outputs signal strength 15, the maximum, when an entity stands on top. Players, mobs, dropped items, arrows, experience orbs, and fishing bobbers all trigger a wooden pressure plate, while players in spectator mode and markers (invisible technical entities) never do. Two Cherry Planks placed side by side in one row craft 1 Cherry Pressure Plate. Minecraft 1.20 removed the experimental-feature requirement for cherry wood pressure plates on both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition.

Cherry Pressure Plate rechecks for entities every 20 game ticks (1 second) after activation and returns to its inactive state once none remain on top. A pressed pressure plate gives weak power to neighboring blocks and strong power to the block directly below. Water and lava cannot break pressure plates, so builders often use Cherry Pressure Plate to contain fluids. In a furnace, Cherry Pressure Plate burns as fuel and smelts 1.5 items per plate. An axe breaks Cherry Pressure Plate fastest, although any tool or bare hands also work.

Guide

How to craft and use a Cherry Pressure Plate in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft the plate

Two Cherry Planks placed side by side in one row of a Crafting Table grid craft 1 Cherry Pressure Plate.

  2. 2

Place Cherry Pressure Plate on a support

Cherry Pressure Plate goes on top of a block with a full or central support surface, such as Stone, an Oak Fence, or a Cobblestone Wall, but never on leaves.

  3. 3

    Trigger the plate

A player, mob, item, or arrow on the upper surface turns Cherry Pressure Plate on and sends signal strength 15 to neighboring blocks.

  4. 4

    Pick up the plate

An axe breaks Cherry Pressure Plate fastest, and removing the block underneath makes the plate drop as an item.

Plate on a fence

Cherry Pressure Plate on top of a fence still detects entities walking through, because a fence has a small collision box.

Frequently asked questions

Do other wooden pressure plates work differently from Cherry Pressure Plate?

No. Oak Pressure Plate, Spruce Pressure Plate, and the other wooden pressure plates function exactly the same way.

How tall is Cherry Pressure Plate?

Cherry Pressure Plate is 1/16 of a block tall when inactive and 1/32 of a block tall when pressed. Entities still stand on the block underneath, because pressure plates are not solid.

Can mobs spawn on Cherry Pressure Plate?

No. In Java Edition, mobs have been unable to spawn on pressure plates since version 1.9.

Do arrows activate Cherry Pressure Plate?

Yes. In Java Edition, arrows have activated wooden pressure plates since version 1.3.1, so any arrow landing on top triggers the plate.

Can an item frame activate Cherry Pressure Plate?

In Java Edition, Item Frames and Glow Item Frames cannot activate wooden pressure plates, but an item frame inside an already pressed plate keeps the plate active.
