Blue Carpet is a thin wool layer that lies flat on any block surface, added to Minecraft in Java Edition 1.6.1 and Bedrock 0.8.0. At 1/16 of a block tall, Blue Carpet breaks instantly with any tool or bare hands (hardness 0.1) and stacks to 64. Two Blue Wool placed in one crafting row yield three Blue Carpets, and in Java Edition any carpet combined with a blue dye recrafts into one Blue Carpet. Blue Carpet generates naturally in snowy tundra villages, which hold blue and red carpets, and in ancient cities together with gray, light blue, and cyan carpets. An apprentice shepherd sells four carpets of any color for one emerald, with sixteen trades in stock.

Blue Carpet doubles as decoration and mob control. Light passes through Blue Carpet without dimming, so builders lay the wool layer over a light-emitting block to keep a room bright while the source stays hidden. Mobs never spawn on the 1/16-high surface, a fence or wall topped with Blue Carpet still blocks animals while players jump over, and a hopper underneath keeps collecting items. Like wool, Blue Carpet dampens sculk sensor vibrations, and llamas carry carpets in a carpet slot as patterned rugs. Blue Carpet is flammable and lava destroys the thin layer, but in Java Edition one carpet smelts 0.335 items as furnace fuel.
