Description

The Bamboo Raft is a water vehicle introduced in Minecraft 1.20 (Trails & Tales) and the only boat-type ride not crafted from tree wood. You build it from five bamboo planks arranged in the standard boat pattern, and bamboo planks themselves come from a Block of Bamboo. Unlike curved wooden boats, the raft sits flat on the water but behaves identically: it floats, carries one player plus a passenger or mob, and can be placed on land. Right-click to enter and use the movement keys to paddle across rivers, lakes and oceans. Add a chest to craft a Bamboo Chest Raft for portable storage on long water journeys. The Bamboo Raft works the same in both Java and Bedrock Edition and breaks instantly by hand.

How to craft and use a Bamboo Raft in Minecraft

    Get bamboo planks

    Craft a Block of Bamboo from 9 bamboo, then turn each block into 2 bamboo planks until you have five.

    Craft the raft

    Place the five bamboo planks in the boat pattern (bottom row filled, plus the two outer slots of the middle row) to make one Bamboo Raft.

    Place it on water

    Right-click the raft onto a water source block or shoreline; it floats immediately and is ready to ride.

    Ride and steer

    Right-click the raft to sit, then use the movement keys to paddle; press sneak to dismount.
