Description

Bamboo Fence Gate is a block that combines the functions of a door and a fence, crafted on a 3x3 Crafting Table grid from 2 Bamboo Planks and 4 Sticks. An axe breaks Bamboo Fence Gate fastest, although any tool or no tool at all also works. Bamboo Fence Gate stacks to 64 and is renewable (obtainable again without limit).

A closed Bamboo Fence Gate forms a barrier 1.5 blocks high that most mobs cannot jump over. Open fence gates have no collision, and several open gates side by side form one continuous passage. Hostile mobs treat a closed fence gate as a solid block and cannot detect players through it unless they already noticed the player. Bamboo Fence Gate gives access to a fenced-in area such as a wheat farm.

Guide

How to craft and use Bamboo Fence Gate in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft Bamboo Fence Gate

Two adjacent rows of the 3x3 Crafting Table grid each take Stick, Bamboo Planks, Stick from left to right. The crafting result is 1 Bamboo Fence Gate.

  2. 2

Place the gate in a fence line

Bamboo Fence Gate turns to face the player who places it, regardless of nearby fences. Wooden fences on both sides connect to the gate automatically.

  3. 3

Open and close it by hand

Bamboo Fence Gate toggles between closed and open each time a player uses it. A hand-opened gate always swings away from the player.

  4. 4

    Control it with redstone

A Redstone Torch or a Block of Redstone beside Bamboo Fence Gate opens the gate at once. Removing the power closes the gate just as fast.

  5. 5

    Use a Wind Charge

A Wind Charge that hits Bamboo Fence Gate opens a closed gate and closes an open gate. Players, Dispensers and Breezes can all fire a Wind Charge.

Hand closing and redstone

A redstone-powered Bamboo Fence Gate that a player closes by hand stays shut until the redstone signal turns off and on again.

Frequently asked questions

Does Bamboo Fence Gate burn?

Yes. Bamboo Fence Gate catches fire, including from lava, unlike Crimson Fence Gate and Warped Fence Gate, which are non-flammable. In a Furnace, Bamboo Fence Gate also serves as fuel and smelts 1.5 items per gate.

What connects to Bamboo Fence Gate?

Wooden fences, Nether Brick Fences and walls connect to Bamboo Fence Gate, while Glass Panes and Iron Bars do not.

Does Bamboo Fence Gate need a block underneath?

No. Bamboo Fence Gate can be placed whether or not a solid block lies beneath, so a gate with no neighbors floats in mid-air.

How does Bamboo Fence Gate sound?

Bamboo Fence Gate uses the bamboo wood sound set with its own opening and closing sounds. The creak can be heard up to 16 blocks away.

When was Bamboo Fence Gate added?

Java Edition 1.20 and Bedrock Edition 1.20.0 added Bamboo Fence Gate to normal worlds. Earlier versions offered Bamboo Fence Gate only behind experimental settings.
