Block of Amethyst is a deep purple crystal block with a chiming sound on contact — found inside hidden geodes lined with budding crystals.
Description
The block generates naturally only inside amethyst geodes — roughly spherical hollow chambers found between Y=-58 and Y=30. Geode interiors layer outward: budding amethyst at the core, then plain amethyst, all encased in calcite and finally wrapped in smooth basalt. Only the budding variant grows amethyst clusters on adjacent faces; the plain block does not propagate. The shards used to craft it have two crucial recipes that the block form does not unlock: tinted glass (blocks light while staying transparent to vision) and the spyglass (a zoom item) — so most miners reserve shards for those tools and only press the block form when surplus is large enough for decoration.

How to get and craft a Block of Amethyst in Minecraft

Find an amethyst geode
Mine between Y=-58 and Y=30 in any Overworld biome and watch for a shell of calcite and smooth basalt. Breaking into it reveals an amethyst geode lined with purple crystals.

Collect amethyst shards
Break fully grown amethyst clusters with any pickaxe — each cluster drops four amethyst shards. Mining a cluster with anything other than a pickaxe destroys it with no drop.

Craft the block
Place four amethyst shards in a 2x2 crafting grid to make one Block of Amethyst. The recipe is shapeless inside the 2x2 area and works in the inventory grid without a crafting table.

Place and use it
Set the Block of Amethyst into a build to hear its signature chime when you walk, fall, or hit it. The plain block is decorative and will not grow new crystals.
Budding Amethyst, the crystal-growing block at the geode core, cannot be harvested — it drops nothing even with a Silk Touch pickaxe. Only the plain Block of Amethyst can be collected or crafted from shards.
