Wither Skeleton Spawn Egg is a black spawn egg with dark gray spots that spawns a wither skeleton on the block face the player clicks. Wither Skeleton Spawn Egg is available only from the Creative inventory or the command /give @s minecraft:wither_skeleton_spawn_egg, because spawn eggs cannot be crafted and never appear in Survival mode. Wither Skeleton Spawn Egg entered Java Edition in version 1.11, when wither skeletons split from regular skeletons into their own mob with a dedicated egg.

Wither Skeleton Spawn Egg summons a hostile mob 2.4 blocks tall that wields a stone sword and inflicts the Wither effect for 10 seconds on hit, draining hearts even through armor. In Survival, wither skeletons appear naturally only inside Nether Fortresses, so Wither Skeleton Spawn Egg is the fastest way to test skull farms on flat Creative worlds. Each summoned wither skeleton can drop coal, bones, and a rare Wither Skeleton Skull (8.5% with Looting III) — collect three skulls and four soul sand to summon the Wither boss.
