Description

Wandering Trader Spawn Egg is a teal-and-brown spotted item that spawns a Wandering Trader the moment you right-click it on a block. Wandering Trader Spawn Egg cannot be crafted and never generates in the world naturally: the item exists only in the Creative inventory or through the /give @p wandering_trader_spawn_egg command, and it has been available in both Java and Bedrock Edition since the 1.14 Village & Pillage update.

Unlike the natural Wandering Trader that arrives with two leashed trader llamas, Wandering Trader Spawn Egg summons a single trader with no llamas. Builders and map-makers use Wandering Trader Spawn Egg to place reliable trading NPCs in adventure maps, test farms, and showcase worlds, and in Java Edition right-clicking the egg on a monster spawner reprograms that spawner to produce wandering traders. A spawned Wandering Trader still despawns after 40 to 60 minutes, so place Wandering Trader Spawn Egg when you actually need its rotating emerald trades.

Java & Bedrock Guide

How to use the Wandering Trader Spawn Egg in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Find the egg in Creative

Open the Creative inventory and search for 'Wandering Trader Spawn Egg', or run /give @p wandering_trader_spawn_egg, since the egg cannot be crafted or found in Survival.

  2. 2

    Aim at solid ground

Point the crosshair at a grass, stone, or floor block where you want the Wandering Trader to appear, leaving at least two empty blocks of headroom.

  3. 3

    Right-click to spawn

Use the Wandering Trader Spawn Egg (right-click on Java, tap on Bedrock) to instantly spawn one Wandering Trader with no trader llamas.

  4. 4

    Trade before it despawns

Open the trade menu right away, because a spawned Wandering Trader despawns after 40 to 60 minutes just like a naturally spawned one.

Java-only spawner trick

On Java Edition you can right-click the Wandering Trader Spawn Egg on a monster spawner to convert it into a wandering-trader spawner; this does not work in Bedrock Edition.
