Description

The Turtle Spawn Egg is a Creative-mode item that spawns a baby turtle when you use it on a block in Minecraft. Like every spawn egg, it cannot be crafted, mined, or found in Survival — you obtain it only from the Creative inventory or with the command /give @s turtle_spawn_egg. The egg shows a light-green base with darker green spots that match a turtle's shell. It was added in Java Edition 1.13 (Update Aquatic) and Bedrock Edition 1.5, alongside turtles themselves. The Turtle Spawn Egg lets map makers and builders place sea turtles anywhere, not only on the beach biomes where they generate naturally. Using the egg on the ground creates a single baby turtle that grows into an adult over time and can later bury itself in sand to lay turtle eggs. The item behaves the same in both Java and Bedrock Edition, and it is most useful for testing, custom maps, and breeding-farm prototypes.

How to use the Turtle Spawn Egg in Minecraft

    Get the spawn egg

    In Creative mode press E and search for 'Turtle Spawn Egg', or run /give @s turtle_spawn_egg to add it to your hotbar.

    Aim at a solid block

    Point your crosshair at the top of a grass, sand, or stone block where you want the turtle to appear.

    Use the spawn egg

    Right-click in Java Edition, or tap and hold in Bedrock Edition, to spawn one baby turtle on the targeted surface.

    Grow or breed the turtle

    Feed the baby seagrass to speed up its growth, or feed two adults seagrass so one burrows into nearby sand and lays turtle eggs.

Creative only

Spawn eggs are not available in the Survival inventory. You need Creative mode or enabled cheats to obtain the Turtle Spawn Egg.
