The Snort Pottery Sherd is a decorative archaeology item depicting a creature face with prominent flared nostrils, an image strongly reminiscent of the Sniffer mob hatched from ancient suspicious-sand finds. It is recovered exclusively by brushing suspicious sand blocks in warm ocean ruins, with a 6.7% (1 in 15) chance per block, and it cannot be crafted by any other means. Brushing one block takes 96 game ticks (4.8 seconds), with the sherd slowly appearing before it pops out as an item.

This fragment is used to craft a Decorated Pot: place any four sherds or bricks in a 2×2 square on the crafting grid, and the face on each side of the resulting pot matches the piece placed in the corresponding slot. A Decorated Pot has a single inventory slot of one stack and works with hoppers both above and below it. Breaking the pot bare-handed or with a Silk Touch tool drops it whole, while a pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe, sword, or trident without Silk Touch returns the original sherds and bricks individually. The Snort Pottery Sherd is non-renewable, so each world holds a limited supply.
