Sculk
Sculk is the deep-dark biome's carpet block — dark indigo flesh laced with cyan veins, dropping experience when broken.
Description
The block also propagates: nearby sculk catalysts convert mob death events into spreading sculk patches, allowing the deep dark biome to grow over time around mob-heavy areas. Hoes are the appropriate tool to break it efficiently, though any tool will eventually work. Builders harvest sculk for two reasons: to stockpile cheap experience for enchanting, and to use the unique colour and texture in horror-themed builds, alien biome reproductions, or as a non-flammable carpet alternative for Nether outposts.

Reach the deep dark
Dig down to Y=-52 or lower and find a deep dark biome, recognisable by its dark indigo sculk floor, cyan veins and the total absence of naturally spawning mobs.

Break sculk with a hoe
A hoe is the fastest tool to break sculk. Without Silk Touch each sculk block drops 1 experience orb; mining a large field is a fast, renewable way to gather XP for enchanting.

Use Silk Touch for the block
To keep the sculk block itself for building, mine it with a Silk Touch tool. Without Silk Touch the block is consumed and only the experience orb drops.

Avoid the shriekers
Do not break or step on sculk shriekers carelessly: three activations summon the Warden. Crouch to mask vibrations from nearby sculk sensors while you harvest.
Place a sculk catalyst next to a mob farm — every mob that dies within 8 blocks converts its experience into new sculk, giving a renewable supply without travelling back to the deep dark.

No. Sculk cannot be crafted. It only generates naturally in the deep dark biome or spreads from a sculk catalyst when mobs die nearby.
