Description
Rooted Dirt generates as the floor and ceiling of lush cave biomes, the colourful underground regions added in 1.18. The texture is brown soil interlaced with thin pale roots, suggesting earth held together by an extensive plant network — visually the inverse of mycelium, with tendrils instead of fungal speckles. The block also generates beneath azalea trees on the surface, marking the entrances to lush caves below.
Applying bone meal to the underside of the block grows hanging roots — vine-like decorative strings up to one block long that drift downward, creating the curtain effect characteristic of lush caves. A hoe converts the block to plain dirt while dropping one hanging-roots item, allowing players to harvest roots without finding a natural cave. The block accepts plant growth on top like ordinary grass — saplings, flowers, mushrooms — and acts as a normal dirt block for farmland conversion. Mining without silk touch returns plain dirt as the drop, so capturing the variant for builds requires the appropriate enchantment.
