How to use the Rib Armor Trim Smithing Template in Minecraft

Loot a Nether Fortress
Open chests inside a Nether Fortress until the Rib template drops; it is the only natural source.

Right-click a smithing table to access its template, armor, and material slots.

Combine the parts
Place the template, one armor piece, and one trim material such as gold, copper, or amethyst to apply the pattern.

Put the template with 7 diamonds and 1 netherrack in a crafting grid to make a spare before exploring again.
