Description

Rabbit Spawn Egg is a Creative-only item that summons a rabbit on any solid surface when a player right-clicks with it in hand. Snapshot 14w27a introduced Rabbit Spawn Egg to Java Edition (version 1.8), and Bedrock Edition received the same spawn egg in v0.13.0 alpha as part of the mob wave that brought rabbits to the game. Rabbit Spawn Egg stacks to 64 and cannot be crafted, smelted, or found in Survival — the Creative inventory, the /give command, and pick-block on an existing rabbit are the only legitimate sources. Because every copy comes from Creative-only tools rather than a farmable recipe, Rabbit Spawn Egg is not a renewable resource.

Rabbit Spawn Egg is used to populate farms, test redstone mob switches, or seed a rabbit habitat for wool-trading setups without travelling to a desert or flower forest. Right-clicking an adult rabbit with Rabbit Spawn Egg produces a baby rabbit, the fastest way to start a breeding pair in a single action. Java Edition gives spawn eggs their own Creative inventory tab, while Bedrock Edition lists Rabbit Spawn Egg at the bottom of the Nature tab — the only functional difference between the two versions. Adventure map makers and zoo builders rely on Rabbit Spawn Egg for guaranteed, on-demand rabbit spawns wherever a custom world needs them.

Java & Bedrock Guide

How to use a Rabbit Spawn Egg in Minecraft

  1. 1

Get the egg from Creative inventory

Open the Creative inventory and pull out the spawn egg with the rabbit icon, or run /give @s rabbit_spawn_egg 64 in the chat.

  2. 2

    Aim at a solid surface

Equip Rabbit Spawn Egg and look at the block where the rabbit should appear — grass, sand, stone, or any full block works.

  3. 3

    Right-click to spawn a rabbit

Right-click the surface; one adult rabbit spawns per use and one egg is consumed from the stack.

  4. 4

Spawn a baby from an adult

Right-click an existing adult rabbit with Rabbit Spawn Egg to produce a baby rabbit, the fastest way to start a breeding pen.

Survival limitation

Rabbit Spawn Egg is Creative-only and cannot be crafted or found in Survival; breeding rabbits with carrots (or dandelions in Bedrock) is the Survival alternative.

Frequently asked questions

No. Rabbit Spawn Egg is Creative-only and cannot be crafted — the only sources are the Creative inventory, the /give command, or pick-block on an existing rabbit.

Is Rabbit Spawn Egg renewable?

No. Every copy comes from Creative tools or commands rather than a farmable recipe, so Rabbit Spawn Egg is not a renewable resource.

What does Rabbit Spawn Egg do?

Right-clicking a surface with Rabbit Spawn Egg spawns one adult rabbit; right-clicking an adult rabbit spawns a baby rabbit instead.

Which version added Rabbit Spawn Egg?

Rabbit Spawn Egg was added to Java Edition in 1.8 (snapshot 14w27a) and to Bedrock Edition in v0.13.0 alpha.

How many Rabbit Spawn Eggs stack together?

Does Rabbit Spawn Egg work in both Java and Bedrock?

Yes. The only difference is the Creative inventory tab — Java uses a dedicated spawn-egg tab, while Bedrock lists it under the Nature tab.
