Description

Rabbit's Foot is a brewing item in Minecraft, added in Java Edition 1.8, used to create the Potion of Leaping (Jump Boost). You cannot craft a rabbit's foot — it drops from rabbits with a 10% chance when one is killed by a player or a tamed wolf, and the Looting enchantment raises both the chance and the maximum drop. Foxes that pick up a rabbit's foot can also drop the item when killed. To use it, brew an Awkward Potion from Nether Wart, then add the rabbit's foot in a brewing stand to produce a Potion of Leaping that grants Jump Boost. Redstone Dust extends the effect's duration, Glowstone Dust upgrades it to Jump Boost II, and Gunpowder converts it into a Splash Potion of Leaping. Expert-level cleric villagers also buy rabbit's feet for emeralds, giving the item renewable trade value. The item behaves identically in both Java and Bedrock Edition.

Brewing Guide

How to use a Rabbit's Foot in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Brew an Awkward Potion

Place Nether Wart and a Water Bottle in a brewing stand to make the Awkward Potion base required for most positive potions.

  2. 2

    Add the rabbit's foot

Put the rabbit's foot in the top slot of the brewing stand over the Awkward Potion to brew a Potion of Leaping with Jump Boost.

  3. 3

    Extend or strengthen it

Add Redstone Dust to lengthen the duration, or Glowstone Dust to upgrade the potion to Jump Boost II.

  4. 4

    Make it throwable

Add Gunpowder to turn the potion into a Splash Potion of Leaping you can throw at other players or mobs.

Edition note

Rabbit's Foot is the only ingredient that produces the Potion of Leaping, and it behaves identically in Java and Bedrock Edition.
