Purple Glazed Terracotta is a vibrant decorative block obtained by smelting Purple Terracotta — stained terracotta dyed purple — in a furnace with any fuel, one block per smelt. Glazed terracotta comes in sixteen dye colors and joined Minecraft in Java Edition 1.12 and Bedrock Edition 1.1.0. Purple Glazed Terracotta also generates naturally in some cold ocean ruins, which gives underwater explorers a second source besides the furnace. Mining requires a pickaxe: a wooden pickaxe or better harvests Purple Glazed Terracotta, and mining without a pickaxe drops nothing. Purple Glazed Terracotta has a hardness of 1.4 and a blast resistance of 1.4.

Builders use Purple Glazed Terracotta for ornamental floors and murals: the texture rotates relative to the direction the player faces while placing, and same-color blocks laid in the correct orientation across a 2×2 or larger area merge into one continuous image. The purple pattern hides the hilt and handguard of a sword, one of the few intentional motifs in the glazed terracotta set. Purple Glazed Terracotta does not stick to slime blocks or honey blocks.
