Description

Ominous Vault is a reward block that generates inside Trial Chambers in Minecraft, added in Java and Bedrock Edition 1.21 "Tricky Trials" on June 13, 2024. A normal vault becomes an Ominous Vault when a player enters the Trial Chamber while affected by Trial Omen, an effect gained by drinking an Ominous Bottle before stepping inside. The Ominous Vault glows with a hostile orange light instead of the calmer tint of a standard vault, signaling the tougher mobs and richer loot of an active ominous trial.

Ominous Vault is unlocked with an Ominous Trial Key, dropped after clearing ominous trial spawners, and each player can claim its loot only once. Ominous Vault is the exclusive source of the Heavy Core, the ingredient combined with a Breeze Rod to craft the Mace, alongside enchanted diamond gear, Wind Charges, and rare pottery sherds. Ominous Vault cannot be mined, pushed by pistons, or relocated in survival, so a full ominous run should be planned before spending a key.

How to open an Ominous Vault in Minecraft

    Get an Ominous Bottle

    Obtain an Ominous Bottle from a regular Trial Vault or other Trial Chamber loot; drinking it applies the Bad Omen effect.

    Enter with Trial Omen

    Drink the Ominous Bottle and step into a Trial Chamber so Bad Omen converts to Trial Omen and turns the vaults ominous.

    Clear ominous trial spawners

    Defeat the stronger mob waves summoned by ominous trial spawners so they drop Ominous Trial Keys.

    Unlock the Ominous Vault

    Hold an Ominous Trial Key and interact with the Ominous Vault to claim your one-time reward, including a chance at the Heavy Core.

Important

Each Ominous Vault can be unlocked only once per player, and a regular Trial Key will not open it — only an Ominous Trial Key works.
