How to mine Nether Gold Ore in Minecraft
-
1
Travel to the Nether
Build and light a nether portal, then step through it — Nether Gold Ore generates only in this dimension.
-
2
Spot the golden flecks
Look for netherrack dotted with bright gold specks along walls, ceilings, and exposed cliffs between Y=10 and Y=117.
-
3
Mine with any pickaxe
Strike the ore with any pickaxe, including a wooden one; it always drops 2-6 gold nuggets without needing an iron-tier tool.
-
4
Add Fortune or Silk Touch
Use Fortune to increase nugget drops, or Silk Touch to collect the block itself and smelt it into a gold ingot later.
Breaking Nether Gold Ore angers nearby piglins and zombified piglins even if you wear gold armor, so clear hostiles first or mine and retreat quickly.

Frequently asked questions
Can you craft Nether Gold Ore?
No. Nether Gold Ore only generates naturally in the Nether and has no crafting recipe; you must mine it from netherrack.
What pickaxe do you need for Nether Gold Ore?
Any pickaxe works, including a wooden one. Unlike Overworld gold ore, it does not require an iron-tier pickaxe to drop nuggets.
How much gold does Nether Gold Ore give?
It drops 2-6 gold nuggets per block, and the Fortune enchantment increases the amount. Nine nuggets craft one gold ingot.
Does Silk Touch work on Nether Gold Ore?
Yes. With Silk Touch the ore block drops intact, and you can smelt it into one gold ingot in a furnace or blast furnace.
Why do piglins attack when I mine Nether Gold Ore?
Mining gold ore, including the Nether variant, provokes nearby piglins even when you wear gold armor. It is a built-in Nether aggression rule.
