Description

Llama Spawn Egg is a light-brown egg with darker brown spots that spawns a llama on the block face you click, and it exists only in the Creative inventory or through the /give command — Llama Spawn Egg cannot be crafted or found in Survival. Minecraft added Llama Spawn Egg in the 1.11 Exploration Update (November 2016) alongside wild llamas, which roam savanna and windswept hills biomes in herds of up to four. Each Llama Spawn Egg produces a llama with a random coat (creamy, white, brown, or gray) and a hidden strength value from 1 to 5 that decides its inventory size.

Llama Spawn Egg is the fastest way to build a pack-animal train: tame the spawned llama by mounting it until hearts appear, then give it a chest for 3 to 15 storage slots depending on its strength. Leash several llamas together and they form a caravan that follows a single lead, while a dyed carpet adds a colored decorative pattern to each one. Llamas spit at attacking mobs and wolves, so a Llama Spawn Egg herd doubles as cheap ranged defense around a base or trail.

How to use a Llama Spawn Egg in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Open Creative or run /give

Llama Spawn Egg only appears in the Creative inventory under Spawn Eggs, or obtain it with /give @s minecraft:llama_spawn_egg.

  2. 2

    Aim at a solid block

Point the crosshair at the top or side of a grass, sand, or stone block where the llama should appear.

  3. 3

    Use the egg

Right-click (Java) or tap (Bedrock) to spawn one llama with a random color and a strength of 1 to 5.

  4. 4

    Tame and equip

Mount the llama repeatedly until hearts pop, then open it and add a chest plus a carpet for storage and decoration.

Tip

Using a Llama Spawn Egg on an existing adult llama in Bedrock Edition spawns a baby llama instead of a new adult.

Frequently asked questions

Can you craft a Llama Spawn Egg?

No. Llama Spawn Egg is not craftable and never appears in Survival; it is available only in the Creative inventory or with the /give command.

What biomes do llamas spawn in?

Wild llamas spawn naturally in savanna and windswept hills biomes in herds of up to four, so a Llama Spawn Egg lets you place them anywhere else.

How much can a llama carry?

A llama spawned from a Llama Spawn Egg holds between 3 and 15 chest slots, set by its hidden strength value of 1 to 5.

Does a Llama Spawn Egg work in both Java and Bedrock?

Yes. Llama Spawn Egg spawns a llama in both editions; in Bedrock, using it on an adult llama spawns a baby instead.
