Description

Lily Pad is a non-solid decorative plant that floats on the surface of water in Minecraft. It generates naturally on water in swamp and mangrove swamp biomes, where dozens of pads can cover a single pond. You cannot craft a lily pad — collect one by breaking it with any tool or your bare hand, and it drops instantly as an item. Place a lily pad on a water source block, or on top of ice, frosted ice, packed ice, or blue ice. Because it has a solid top surface, players and mobs can stand on a lily pad, so a row of them forms a thin walkway across deep water. Boats destroy any lily pad they sail into, so keep them clear of your boat lanes. A lily pad can also go in a composter, with a 65% chance to raise the compost level. In the latest Minecraft 26.1.2, lily pads remain a simple decoration for swamp builds, ponds, and Japanese-garden aesthetics.

How to get and place a Lily Pad in Minecraft

  1. 1

Travel to a swamp or mangrove swamp biome, where lily pads spawn floating on the water surface.

  2. 2

  3. 3

Place it on water or ice

Aim at the top of a water source block, ice, or packed ice and place the lily pad so it floats there.

  4. 4

Line up several lily pads to cross deep water on foot, or scatter them to decorate ponds and swamp builds.

Boat warning

Boats destroy any lily pad they collide with, so route your boats away from decorative lily pad fields.
