Description

Large Amethyst Bud is the third growth stage of amethyst in Minecraft, sitting between the medium bud and the final amethyst cluster. It grows only on budding amethyst inside amethyst geodes, hollow underground formations lined with calcite and an outer shell of smooth basalt. The large bud emits light level 4, brighter than the small bud (1) and medium bud (2). To collect the block itself you must mine it with a Silk Touch pickaxe; without Silk Touch the bud drops nothing. Left undisturbed on budding amethyst, a large bud eventually matures into an amethyst cluster, which yields four amethyst shards when broken with any pickaxe. Like all amethyst, it produces gentle chime sounds when walked on or hit. Large Amethyst Bud was added in Java Edition 1.17 and Bedrock Edition 1.17.0.

How to get and grow a Large Amethyst Bud in Minecraft

    Find an amethyst geode

    Dig in the overworld between Y=0 and Y=70 until you hit a shell of calcite and smooth basalt surrounding a hollow amethyst geode.

    Locate budding amethyst

    Inside the geode, find budding amethyst blocks — only these grow buds. They look like amethyst blocks covered in darker spots.

    Mine with Silk Touch

    Mine the large amethyst bud with a Silk Touch pickaxe to collect the block itself; any other tool destroys it and drops nothing.

    Let it grow into a cluster

    Leave the bud on budding amethyst and wait — it matures into an amethyst cluster that drops four amethyst shards when broken.

Version note

Large Amethyst Bud was added in Java Edition 1.17 and Bedrock Edition 1.17.0. Budding amethyst itself cannot be obtained, even with Silk Touch.
