Description

Infested Mossy Stone Bricks (identifier minecraft:infested_mossy_stone_bricks) is a disguised block that looks exactly like ordinary mossy stone bricks but conceals a silverfish. When a player breaks it in Survival, the block drops nothing and a silverfish bursts out, which can then attack and wake other nearby infested blocks in a chain reaction. The block was added in Java Edition 1.5 as the "Mossy Stone Brick Monster Egg" and was renamed to its current form in the 1.13 update. It generates naturally inside strongholds, mixed among normal stone brick blocks, where it ambushes unprepared explorers searching for the End portal. Because the texture is identical to regular mossy stone bricks, the only reliable way to spot one before mining is by mining speed: infested blocks break noticeably faster than their solid counterparts. The block cannot be collected in Survival even with a Silk Touch tool, so the item itself is obtained from the Creative inventory or with the /give command. Builders use Infested Mossy Stone Bricks as hidden traps in adventure maps and ruined-castle builds, while explorers learn to recognize them to avoid swarms of silverfish underground.

Java & Bedrock Guide

How to use Infested Mossy Stone Bricks in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Get the block

Open the Creative inventory and search "infested", or run /give @s minecraft:infested_mossy_stone_bricks, since it cannot be mined in Survival.

  2. 2

    Place the trap

Put the block among real mossy stone bricks so its identical texture hides it from other players.

  3. 3

    Trigger the silverfish

Breaking the block spawns one silverfish that emerges and attacks the nearest player.

  4. 4

    Avoid the chain reaction

Kill the silverfish quickly; if it touches other infested blocks it wakes them, releasing a whole swarm.

Important

In Survival the block drops nothing and Silk Touch does not work on it. In strongholds, watch your mining speed: infested blocks break faster than normal mossy stone bricks.
