Description
Like every sherd, the Heart Pottery Sherd is used as an ingredient for a Decorated Pot. The recipe places four items — sherds or plain bricks — in a plus shape around an empty center of the crafting grid; each sherd appears on the side of the pot that matches its slot, so up to four different designs can be combined on a single pot. A Decorated Pot has a one-stack inventory slot and accepts hoppers both above and below, making it usable for light automation as well as decoration. When broken with bare hands the pot drops whole, but breaking it with any tool shatters it back into the individual sherds and bricks, so the heart design can be recovered and reused.

Search cold ocean floors, taiga, snowy taiga, birch forest, jungle, old growth taiga, or sunflower plains biomes for a Trail Ruins site buried just below the surface.

Find suspicious gravel inside the ruin
Look for gravel blocks embedded in the ruin's layers; suspicious gravel looks like normal gravel but is part of the structure and cannot be moved.

Brush the suspicious gravel
Use a brush on suspicious gravel to slowly reveal the item; Heart Pottery Sherd drops with about an 8.3% chance per suspicious gravel block inside Trail Ruins.

Craft a Decorated Pot with the sherd
Place four sherds or bricks in a plus shape around the empty center of the crafting grid; the Heart Pottery Sherd stamps its heart motif on the side of the pot that matches its slot.

Recover the sherd if needed
Break the finished Decorated Pot with any tool — not bare hands — to shatter it back into the original four sherds and bricks, so the Heart Pottery Sherd can be reused.
