How to craft and use a Golden Chestplate in Minecraft
-
1
Gather 8 gold ingots
Mine gold ore or nether gold ore and smelt it until you have at least 8 gold ingots.
-
2
Open a crafting table
Arrange the 8 gold ingots in the chestplate pattern: fill the left and right columns plus the bottom two rows, leaving only the top-center slot empty.
-
3
Equip the chestplate
Move the Golden Chestplate into the chest armor slot to gain 5 armor points immediately.
-
4
Enchant for extra value
At an enchanting table, gold's enchantability of 25 lets you reach Protection IV or Unbreaking III for less experience.
Wearing any single piece of golden armor stops ordinary piglins from turning hostile in the Nether, but it does not affect piglin brutes.

Frequently asked questions
How do you make a Golden Chestplate?
Place 8 gold ingots in a crafting table, filling every slot except the top-center one, to craft one Golden Chestplate.
How much protection does a Golden Chestplate give?
A Golden Chestplate adds 5 armor points and has only 112 durability, the lowest of any non-leather armor.
Do piglins attack you if you wear gold armor?
No. Piglins stay neutral toward any player wearing at least one piece of golden armor, though piglin brutes always remain hostile.
Is a Golden Chestplate worth using?
Its high enchantability makes strong enchantments cheap, but the low durability makes it better for piglin trading than for long fights.
Can you smelt a Golden Chestplate?
Yes. Smelting a Golden Chestplate in a furnace or blast furnace returns one gold nugget.
